Pharmacology for Nurses: A Pathophysiologic Approach 4th Edition by Michael P. Adams, Leland N. Holland and Carol Urban helps nursing students master pharmacology by tightly linking it to therapeutic goals and patient wellness. It is organized by body systems (units) and diseases (chapters).
This text provides complete information on the drug classifications used to treat each disease class. Students can easily locate all relevant anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology in the same chapter where each drug is discussed. Exclusive Nursing Process Focus features clearly and concisely relates pharmacotherapy to patient assessment, nursing diagnoses, planning patient outcomes, implementing patient-centered care, and evaluating the outcomes.
This new edition links pharmacology to patient care through exceptionally accurate, attractive graphics, rich media resources, extensive self-assessment tools, and features covering complementary medicine; diverse patient/lifestyle considerations; and evidence-based practice. It has been thoroughly updated to reflect current pharmacologic drugs, drug classes, processes, mechanisms, and warnings; and the newest QSEN competencies and NCLEX question formats.
Nursing Process Focus Charts present need-to-know nursing actions in the nursing process. These include client teaching and discharge planning. Additional charts are available on MyNursingKit. Research Boxes provide evidence-based practice as it is applicable to pharmacology. Avoiding Medication Errors scenarios illustrate potential pitfalls that nurses encounter and can lead to medication errors. Each scenario ends with a question in which students must identify what went wrong.
Complementary and Alternative Therapies boxes present popular herbal or dietary supplements clients may use along with conventional drugs. Lifespan Considerations boxes present a variety of special issues related to age, gender, and psychosocial concerns to consider during drug therapy. Treating the Diverse Patient boxes provide additional information related to culture and ethnicity.
Home & Community Considerations alert students to concerns and teaching implications for care settings outside the hospital. Key Concept Summaries provided expanded summaries of concepts that correlated to sections within the chapter. NCLEX_RN Review Questions prepare students for course exams on chapter content. Answers and rationales are provided in Appendix D.
Critical Thinking Questions help to apply the essential components of nursing care through case-based scenarios. This text is structured to present pharmacology and pathology together, so students can more easily grasp the interrelationship between these subjects and provide a holistic perspective to patient care. A prototype approach, easy to follow presentation and extensive pedagogical aids enable students to understand key concepts and apply essential components of nursing care to drug therapy.
